Teaching Quotes

Don’t carry your egos in your knees

When in doubt, chest moves forward

Land when you want to land, not when gravity tells you to

Head goes up last, head goes down first…

If you can practise, practise. If you can’t, don’t feel guilty

Only you can differentiate between stretching and pain. Stretching is good, pain is always bad

If you must practise on Moon Days, don’t go too deeply into asanas Concentrate instead on breathing, bandhas and drishti

First part of first limb of Ashtanga Yoga is Ahimsa – non-violence Don’t be violent with yourself when practising!

If you are unable to practise asana, practise other aspects of yoga such as Kriya cleansing rituals

Keep shoulders back and down

Engage Uddiyana Bandha (lower-abdominal lock) to make space and protect your lower back

Focus on breath – waves coming in, waves going out

  • Teaching-Practice-YogaTTs

In Om Magazine, Will Lavin offers real-world advice for aspiring yoga teachers. It's not about being the "best" at asana—it's about learning to teach safely, effectively, and authentically. Expect philosophy, anatomy, and self-discovery—not just advanced poses. A rewarding journey, with lessons (and friendships) that last a lifetime.

  • will Lavin post

After surviving Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and the damage of radiotherapy, Will Lavin turned to pranayama—yogic breathwork—to reclaim his lung function and ditch his steroid inhaler. With over 25 years of practice, simple techniques like alternate nostril breathing, breath retention, and Nauli have helped him heal naturally and deepen his yoga. A powerful story of self-led recovery through the breath.

  • set-use-neti-pot-ayurvedic-

Yoga is more than just physical postures—when life slows your asana practice, turn to yogic cleansing. Daily practices like tongue scraping, Nauli, and Jala Neti support health and breath. Weekly Sutra Neti offers deeper nasal cleansing and clarity. Stay connected to yoga’s deeper limbs, even off the mat.
